Dear Eco Warriors,
Summer is about to arrive and with it we exchange the warm fluffy sweaters for the light colorful dresses. The closet might seem lighter but we all know that the amount of pieces in it are far to many. In fact, a study shows that people use less than 50% of their wardrobes (Fashion United, 2018). Why does this happen? Impulsive buying is the main party to blame, fueled by Fast Fashion. Sadly, nowadays clothes are considered perishable and hence when a regular consumer sees a cute, unneeded and cheap t-shirt, doesn’t think twice about getting it. Knowing how unsustainable this is, and in the scope of the Fashion Revolution Week, we decided to challenge you to do something different this time. Declutter your closet and create your very own Capsule Wardrobe.

A Capsule Wardrobe is a wardrobe composed by a small amount of key timeless items adapted to your taste. These key items are carefully chosen to combine with each other so that in the end, you have hundreds of combinations and a lighter closet. The wardrobe is created to last for many years to come, so it's really important that you choose high-quality pieces.

The beauty of having a capsule wardrobe is that it’s not only good for the environment, but also good for you. If you think about it, it facilitates your life in a lot of different ways: it gets easy to choose your clothes in the morning, easy to pack for a trip, you will have more space in your closet and it will provide you with a deep enjoyment feeling and motivate you to proliferate this minimalism to the rest of your house and, ultimately, your life.

We believe that this is a perfect way to start changing the way you consume fashion. We challenge you to do this and to help you achieve it, we decided to develop our very own Fair Bazaar Summer Capsule Wardrobe!

What is the Fair Bazaar Capsule Wardrobe (FBCW)?

The FBCW is a Summer capsule wardrobe composed by specially selected timeless and very cool Fair Bazaar items. What makes it special is that it’s not only sustainable for the mere fact that it promotes a minimalist and non-consumption lifestyle, but also because these items are produced ethically and sustainably, making your wardrobe eco-footprint extremely low. Our goal with this wardrobe is to inspire you developing your own, and to provide with any missing items that you believe would transform the wardrobe for the better.

In total we’ve selected 26 of our beautiful Summer products which together allow 116 different outfit combinations. You can see here 16 of those outfits. In detail we selected:

  • 15 pieces of clothing;
  • 7 accessories; and
  • 7 accessories; and
  • 4 pairs of shoes.

How can I start my Capsule Wardrobe?

Easy. Get yourself a free afternoon and start going through your wardrobe. Make two different piles: one for the clothes you regularly use and definitely want to keep, and the other for the ones you haven’t worn for over a year but keep in your closet because you think they might be handy one day. This last pile will leave your wardrobe for good! But please, don't throw them away because as we like to say “one man's garbage is another one treasure”. Showcase them to friends & family, recycle the pieces you can, and donate the rest to people in need.

After this first selection, go through your first pile and divide them into tops, bottoms, one-pieces, accessories and shoes. Then, look at each one of them and think about how you could combine them with the rest of your wardrobe: does that particular piece goes well with more than 5 of the other items in your closet? If yes, it's a keeper if not… you might need to reconsider your previous decision.
Continuously do this with all of them, and by the end you will definitely have a cleaner and better-looking wardrobe!

Seems like too much work for you?
